Christian Education }
The Board of Christian Education was revitalized at First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church in January 1999. As we began formulating goals and strategies for our activities, we realized that our effectiveness would be in direct proportion to how consistently we kept as a guide the commission given by Jesus to His earliest followers.
That commission found in Matthew 28:18-20 reads: Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,"All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Since 1999 our activities have been centered on the following goals outlined in the Christian Education Handbook by Bruce P. Bowers, Editor:
Sunday School is the Church-Growth Center for all ages conducted by the church, better known as "The Church At Work". It is called Sunday School because it is conducted on Sunday and contains some elements of school: Teachers, Students, a definite curriculum, and Systematic Instructions.
Our purpose is to teach, witness and lead persons to accept Christ as Savior and Lord. Also, to provide a concerted effort to reach persons who are outside the influence of the church.
Our textbook for the Sunday School is the Bible, which points the way to salvation and to the Christian life.
According to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) our Sunday School is designed to encompass bible centered teaching enlisting holisting approach evangelism
First Cosmopolitan has both a Wednesday Noon-day Bible Study and a 7:30pm Bible Study and Teachers Meeting.
The noon-day class provides an in-depth study of the scriptures, on a scripture by scripture basis, and an explanation of how they relate to other passages in the Bible. The lunchtime session is perfect for those who have the time during the day, or can take the time to be fed the Word of God. Questions and discussions highlight this session with each book of the Bible discussed.
The 7:30pm meeting serves a three fold purpose: prayer service, bible study, and a review of the sunday school lesson. This meeting is the older and the more traditional of the two meetings and time is allotted for fellowship and devotion. Both meetings are open to anyone who seeks a better outlook on life and a greater understanding of His word.
